Retainers are used for two purposes. We use retainers as the last stage of your smile solution, to hold in place your new killer smile! They also can be used for early treatment to move and guide baby teeth to solve issues before they become bigger problems.
Most people wear a retainer for about six months. You’ll wear it all the time, except when you’re eating. Do you know what the number one problem is with retainers? People throw them out by accident! Always keep your retainer in its storage container while you eat.
After the initial timeframe, we’ll ask you to self-monitor with your retainer. This means every few nights you’ll wear your retainer and do an assessment. If everything feels groovy, then you can continue the same pattern. But if it feels tight or something’s pinching, wear it a few nights in a row and see how you feel. If the discomfort continues, come in and enjoy some Dr. B time! We’ll get your spirit smiling again.
